Addis Ababa, March 7, 2020 (FBC) –The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and the Federal Supreme Court today held a workshop on election dispute resolution.
The day-long event is aimed at discussing the role of courts in Ethiopia’s upcoming general elections and familiarizing judges about legal frameworks.
In her opening remarks, Meaza Ashenafi, President of the Federal Supreme Court, said special electoral tribunals will be established to respond to election related complaints.
Deputy Chairperson of NEBE, Wubshet Ayele, said “I’m confident courts will remain neutral while discharge their responsibility in giving decision to election related issues.”
He further said the electoral board is ready to work in collaboration with the Federal Supreme Court. Ethiopia is scheduled to hold general elections in August, 2020.
