Addis Ababa, March 18, 2023 (FBC) – The World Health Organization has reiterated continued support to the implementation of One Health initiative in Ethiopia.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, Technical Officer at World Health Organization (WHO) Ethiopia Country Office, stated that the UN agency is closely working with the National One Health Steering Committee to help tackle public health challenges.
WHO has been providing technical and financial assistance to the National One Health Steering Committee with a view to capacitate the public activities being carried out by the four ministerial institutions which have so far signed MoU in the sector; Health Ministry, Agriculture Ministry, Environmental Protection Authority, Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority.
We are currently providing continued support to the committee through capacity building and advocacy works and developing strategic guideline policy documents that are critical to ensure that the One Health initiative is fully operationalized in a way to achieve better public health outcomes.
Dr. Mohammed further underscored that WHO is always committed to continue its multifaceted assistance to all actors working under the framework of the One Health initiative.
One Health is a broader concept that brings different stakeholders and disciplines working together to address critical public health matters taking into consideration the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the wider environment including ecosystems are closely linked and interdependent.
