Addis Ababa, April 7, 2023 (FBC) – The World Health Day 2023 is being celebrated across the globe.
On 7 April 2023 World Health Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) observes its 75th anniversary.
In 1948, countries of the world came together and founded WHO to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable, so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health and well-being.
WHO says that its 75th anniversary year is an opportunity to look back at public health successes that have improved quality of life during the last seven decades.
It is also an opportunity to motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today and tomorrow, it adds.
WHO calls for health equity in face of unprecedented threats.
On its anniversary WHO calls on governments and leaders to take action to protect and invest in health and care workers who are at the forefront of the response to health and climate emergencies.
WHO is also urging countries to take urgent action to protect, support and expand the health workforce as a strategic priority.
Investments in education, skills and decent jobs for health need to be prioritized to meet the rapidly growing demand for health and avert a projected shortage of 10 million health workers by 2030; primarily in low- and middle-income countries.
It urges countries to provide health by prioritizing primary health care as the foundation of universal health coverage.
WHO stands ready to support the countries of the world as they negotiate a pandemic accord, the revision of the International Health Regulations and other financial, governance and operational initiatives to prepare the world for future pandemics, it has indicated.
The future of health depends on how well we power health through science, research, innovation, data, digital technologies, and partnerships, it has stated.
