Addis Ababa, November 17, 2021 (FBC) – Some western mainstream media, such as CNN, New York Times, The Washington Post, BBC, and others, are serving as an arm of oligarchy, and their narratives are not recognizing that Ethiopia is a sovereign nation, veteran American political-economic analyst Lawrence Freeman said.
In an exclusive interview with AMN, the veteran analyst urged the meida to put into consideration that “Ethiopia had elections in June and September, and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmad was re-elected as its leader”
“What all these forces fail to recognize is that Ethiopia has a sovereign government, it had an election. It’s a nation, it is sovereign, and a rebel group has chosen to not accept that.” Lawerence Freeman underscored.
And therefore there’s no equivalency to a rebel group trying to overthrow an elected sovereign government.
“The U.S. congress and the Biden ministration have more or less sided with the TPLF. And this causes a very serious strategic danger for the Horn of Africa.” He said. They must know that Ethiopia has been playing an important role in United Nations.
Ethiopia was a stable nation until the TPLF which is being supported by the west launched the war.
“United States is a democratic republic, not a democracy. We believed in electing the most thoughtful people to be our representatives. And what we need in Ethiopia, just like my country, is we need debates among the citizens, what should be the future of our country? What’s the best policy? How do we promote economic growth? And the policy should be what people vote for or support, not the group that they are supporting”
Africa is in need of an abudnent power, and Ethiopia is constructing the GERD to address a power shortage in the continent. Ethiopia is taking the lead in adressing such an issue.
“Ethiopia is the first Sub-Sharan African nation to bring an electrified Railway Project. If the U.S. concern in Africa is human rights, then it has to accept that developments like electricity and road are inextricably linked with human rights. So it must support Ethiopia.”
The US should stop pressuring Ethiopia and give support to the democratically elected government of the nation, he stressed.
