Addis Ababa, April 18, 2023 (FBC) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Meles Alem, stated that the series of visits by leaders of various countries and senior diplomats to Ethiopia is a sign that Ethiopia has moved from crisis to a new phase of diplomacy.
Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Sijjarto, who arrived in Addis Ababa for an official visit, discussed with various Ethiopian government officials.
In his stay in Ethiopia, Peter Sijjarto conferred with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, on ways to strengthen the comprehensive cooperation relations between the two countries, the MFA Spokesperson said.
In today’s media briefing, Meles, said that DPM & FM Demeke held a successful discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Sijjarto.
Their discussion, according to the Spokesperson, focused on issues pertaining to enhancing the relationship between the two countries, which started in 1956, as well as local and multilateral cooperation issues.
During the two foreign ministers’ meeting, Demeke Mekonnen has mentioned that the long-standing bilateral relationship should be further strengthened.
He called on the international community to provide concrete and universal support regarding the implementation of the peace agreement reached to solve the conflict in northern Ethiopia.
On the other hand, Meles highlighted that Ethiopia has shown approval to the request of Peter Sijjarto to prepare a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in economy and civil aviation.
They also discussed to strengthen their cooperation in water development, agriculture, education and other sectors where Hungary is known.
It was stated that discussions were held with the leaders of various countries regarding Ethiopia’s role to fulfill its role in establishing peace and security in neighboring countries and the horn of African region.
