Upper House Speaker holds talks with delegation of Russia’s Federation Council

Addis Ababa, October 7, 2024 (FBC) – The Speaker of the House of Federation of Ethiopia, Mr. Agegnehu Teshager, today held a meeting with a delegation led by Nikolay Vladimirov, Senator of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, the two dignitaries emphasized the long-standing relations between the two countries and noted that the relationship is continually strengthening over time.

Mr. Agegnehu asserted that the Ethiopian Upper House is actively working to implement the Memorandum of Understanding signed with its Russian counterpart as soon as possible. He stated that Ethiopia’s House of Federation (HoF) is planning to learn from the experiences of its Russian counterpart in terms of administering diversity.

Hoping that Russia’s multifaceted support for Ethiopia will continue in the areas of capacity building, science and technology, Agegnehu emphasized that Ethiopia is committed to implementing the decisions made by BRICS member countries.

He also wished for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine through dialogue.

On his part, head of the Russian delegation, Senator Nikolay Vladimirov, stated that Ethiopia is more than ever a strong friend of Russia.

He mentioned that his country will continue to strengthen its support for Ethiopia in the fields of education, science and technology, and culture. He expressed interest in opening a Russian school in Ethiopia.

Additionally, as the chair of BRICS+, Russia is committed to providing all necessary support to member states of the ever-expanding platform to enable them to work in cooperation and collaboration.
