Upper house speaker confers with Turkish Ambassador to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, January 15, 2021 (FBC) – The Speaker of the House of Federation Adem Farah discussed with Ambassador of Turkey to Ethiopia Yaprak Alp on a range of issues including the upcoming 6th national elections.

The speaker briefed Ambassador Yaprak on the procedures the government followed to postpone the 6th national elections due to the Coronavirus virus pandemic that hit the country.

Adem explained that the decision to postpone the election came after the Council of Constitutional Inquiry had submitted all the necessary recommendations to the house.

He told the ambassador that the TPLF ringleaders held regional elections in Tigray defying the resolution passed by the House of Federation while other regions acted in line with the decision to delay the poll.

House speaker further explained that federal government started the law enforcement operation in Tigray after the TPLF clique had carried out premeditated attack against the Northern Command of the National Defense Force and committed treason against the nation.

Federal government has been hunting for culprits, delivering humanitarian assistances to affected people and working to restore infrastructure vandalized by the renegade group after successfully concluded the law enforcement operation in the region.

Adem also reaffirmed commitment of Ethiopia to maintain its bilateral ties with Turkey and extended gratitude to the Turkish government for multifaceted support it extended to Ethiopia.

Ambassadro Yaprak Alp, to her part, appreciated the reform activities underway in the country and reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to continue development partnership with Ethiopia.

Commending the level of economic partnership between Ethiopia and Turkey, Ambassador Yaprak said that more Turkish investors are now showing interests to join the investment sphere in the country.
