Addis Ababa, March 26, 2024 (FBC) – The 1.6-mile (2.57 km)-long Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, in the U.S., has partially collapsed after a ship hit it, and up to 20 people may be in the water, the Baltimore City Fire Department said Tuesday, describing the collapse as a mass casualty incident.
“We understand up to 20 individuals may be in the Patapsco River right now, as well as multiple vehicles,” Kevin Cartwright of the Baltimore Fire Department told CNN.
A live video posted on social media showed a ship hitting the bridge, after which major portions of the span collapsed into the Patapsco River.
Baltimore police said they had been notified of the incident at 1:35 a.m. ET (0535 GMT) on Tuesday. There were no immediate reports of casualties. CGTN
