Addis Ababa, December 22, 2022 (FBC) – The Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau has announced that up to two million international and local tourists will visit this year’s Christmas festival in Lalibela.
The Director of Tourism Development at the Bureau, Melkamu Adamu, told Fana Broadcasting Corporate, various preparatory works are being undertaken in every sector to ensure successful Christmas celebration on January 7, 2023.
He explained that the Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau is in charge of organizing visitor flow information, preparatory works, promotion of the event through various media, and ensuring the readiness of tourist service institutions and stakeholders.
With this, more than 45 quality hotels suitable for visitors are ready to welcome their guests, he said.
The official also stated that a flamboyant celebration of this year’s Christmas holiday is of great importance to restore the flow of tourists and the stimulus of tourism, which has slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in the last two years.
He also said that other areas of the region where there was conflict are now peaceful, stating that they are providing the visitors with proper information.
Melkamu also indicated that the Ethiopian Ministry of Tourism has invited ambassadors and diplomats from various countries based in Addis Ababa to attend this year’s Christmas celebration.
He confirmed that Lalibela city is ready to welcome its guests. He pointed out that before the main Christmas celebration there will be a honey products symposium where tourists can visit the attractions in and around the historic city as well as in Lasta woreda.
It has been stated that the preparatory work is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Amhara Region Culture and Tourism Bureau, Lalibela City Administration, Lasta Woreda Administration and various stakeholders in the sector.
