Addis Ababa, December 20, 2022 (FBC) – Ergogie Tesfaye, Minister of Women and Social Affairs hosted a delegation from the UNICEF to discuss the ongoing humanitarian assistance to people in need in the country.
The Minister bade farewell to the former UNICEF representative to Ethiopia Gianfranco Rotigliano and welcomed the newly appointed one UNICEF Mariko Kagashima and her colleagues at her office.
She thanked UNICEF for the humanitarian assistance it has been providing for people in conflict and drought affected areas. She also hopped that the cooperation between the agency and the government would be further strengthened.
Ergogie briefed on the activities the Ministry has been undertaking to address the issues of women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, the elderly and refugees.
The Minister called on UN agencies and partners to scale up their humanitarian support to people affected by the conflict in northern parts of Ethiopia.
The newly appointed representative, for her part, affirmed commitment of the UNICEF to continue its support activities being undertaken by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs to address socio economic issues among women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities.
Mariko Kagashima also noted that the cooperation between UNICEF and the Government of Ethiopia would be strengthened more than ever before, he said.
