Addis Ababa, October 16, 2023 (FBC) – Gathered in harmony under the parasol of our flag, we shall uphold the unity of Ethiopia, the FDRE Government Communication Service said marking the 16th National Flag Day.
The nation is observing the 16th National Flag Day with different ceremonies across the country and in the embassies and missions of Ethiopia stationed in different parts of the world under the theme “The Prestige of Our Flag: A Guarantee for Unity and Sovereignty”.
On the occasion of the National Flag Day, GCS has sent a message of congratulations to all Ethiopians.
In its statement, GCS emphasized that the Ethiopian flag is the symbol of the nation’s invincible sovereignty, the hallmark of its freedom and the embodiment of the pride of its people.
“We shall unite under our flag and uphold the unity of Ethiopia,” the statement indicated stressing the importance of ensuring self-sufficiency permanently in order to maintain its pride and sovereignty.
The Ethiopian flag has been passed down from generation to generation, GCS noted adding that the flag is the mark of the sacrifices of brave Ethiopians.
To protect the sovereignty of Ethiopia, to cement the freedom and dignity of the people, brave Ethiopians have paid the ultimate sacrifice together for the love and honor of the nation’s flag. “In that regard, the flag of Ethiopia attests the sacrifices made for our sovereignty and our national unity.”
As the sheer symbol of the country’s sovereignty, the Ethiopian flag has remained intact owing to the ultimate sacrifices made by its brave citizens.
In observing the Flag Day, GCS reminded the importance of realizing solidarity is the key to sovereignty. Ethiopia is home to many cultures, languages, religions, landscapes and climates, needs, thoughts, and potential resources. “Our Ethiopia is the face of diversity,” GCS said.
When the national unity is strengthened, Ethiopia’s sovereignty will stand on a firm foundation. The Ethiopian flag will be honored. It is important to realize that the pride of the flag can be maintained through the strong works done to buttress national unity.
Over the years, brave Ethiopians have preserved the nation’s sovereignty and independence with their blood, and raised the flag high. GCS is adamant that today’s generation is expected to strengthen the country whose sovereignty has been preserved through the ultimate sacrifice of its previous generations.
“This will be ensured when the generation realizes its debt and ensures the comprehensive prosperity of Ethiopia in every field it is engaged in. When the comprehensive prosperity of our country becomes a reality, the manifestation of our identity and our flag will increase,” the statement further said.
GCS has called on all Ethiopians to demonstrate respect and love for their country’s flag by participating in events that can protect the national unity and sovereignty. “As usual, we have to prove that we stand guardians of our flag by respecting those who make sacrifices to ensure the peace and development of their country.”
