Addis Ababa January 20, 2023 (FBC) – Commissioner of the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (DRMC), Shiferaw Teklemariam discussed with UN Famine Prevention and Response Coordinator, Reena Ghelani on various issues.
The two sides exchanged views on the current emergency humanitarian situation and possible solutions to address related challenges and, build capacity of DRMC, among others.
Reena Ghelani appreciated the ongoing humanitarian response in Ethiopia to people affected by drought and others in difficult situation.
The coordinator particularly commended delivery of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts in the northern part of the country in the wake of the peace agreement.
She also noted that drought early warning surveys and related activates undertaken by the government of Ethiopia to strengthen preparedness and response for drought and other natural and manmade disasters should be strengthened.
Reena Ghelani further confirmed that the UN is committed to closely working with Ethiopia in reducing the risk of disaster in the country and scaling up humanitarian aid delivery and response efforts in the country, Public Relations and Communication Director of DRMC told FBC exclusively.
