Addis Ababa, February 9, 2022 (FBC) – Concluding her visit to several war-torn areas in Ethiopia, the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed has briefed journalists on the humanitarian situation and the measures to address the problem.
The Deputy Secretary-General stressed need to expedite humanitarian operation in conflict affected areas in Ethiopia to save lives of people who are under desperate situation.
Saying that the peace and security situation is improving compared to the situation months ago, the Deputy Secretary General said that the visit has enabled her to discover the dark side of the conflict its terrible consequences. She called for enhanced humanitarian assistance to people in need in affected areas.
Amina expressed optimism that the forthcoming National Dialogue would help bring national consensus and sustainable peace to the country.
The Deputy Secretary General along with senior Officials of the Government of Ethiopia has witnessed the human and property damage particularly in Afar and Amhara Regions and assessed the humanitarian situation in the affected areas.
