Addis Ababa, December 24, 2023 (FBC) – Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University opened a Russian Language Center at Bonga University in attendance of government officials and representatives of higher education institutions yesterday.
State Minister for Education, Kora Tushune, President of Bonga University, Petros Woldegiorgis (PhD), Vice President of the Pan-African Public Private Partnership Development Center, Oksana Mayorova, representatives of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Addis Ababa, lecturers and researchers from Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, among others, attended the launching ceremony.
Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University, Ella Vladimirovna Suslova (PhD), during the launching ceremony, stated that center will contribute its in cementing cultural and people to people ties between Ethiopia and Russia.
“Ethiopia and Russia have a close historical and longstanding relationship. The two countries are cementing their ties in multiple sectors. The opening of this center is part of the ongoing multifaceted cooperation between our two countries. The center paves the way for further collaboration in the education, cultural and people to people ties,” she said.
The center will provide courses focused on Russian folklore, history and tradition, according to Ella Vladimirovna Suslova.
President of Bonga University, Petros Woldegiorgis, for his part, pointed out that his institution and Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University have reached an agreement to collaborate in education and research works in agriculture and health sectors, describing the opening of the center as a crucial step to further the cooperation.
He added that Bonga University has a plan to expand the services of the language center to Addis Ababa and other parts of the country.
