Ugandan scholars say AU an appropriate platform to address GERD issues

Addis Ababa, November 3, 2021 (FBC) – Ugandan scholars who took part in a discussion organized by Foreign Relations Council of the Country under the theme ” The prospect for successful Africa lead solution on th Ethiopia -Egypt -Sudan conflict over the GERD” said the African Union (AU) is the appropriate platform to address the issues related to the project.

The scholars said GERD is an African project being constructed at a right time when the continent is in need of development and prosperity.

Nile is the largest African River and gift of nature that links and interconnects many riparian countries as a single community, the scholars said, adding the issues raised in connection with the Construction process of the damon such a Continental natural resource shall be resolved by African mechanism.

AU is the only appropriate and well-structured platform to address GERD issues, they underlined. Scholars said that Ethiopia is finalizing the construction of the 6,000 MW hydroelectric dam which is crucial to address the power demand in the region

A Well-known lecturer and researcher on African dispute resolution areas at Makerere University, Professor kasaja table a research study on the matter.

Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Alemtsehay Meseret expressed gratitude to the Foreign Relations and the scholars as well for their constructive discussion on the issue.
