UAE reiterates commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s climate change initiatives

Addis Ababa, November 7, 2024 (FBC) – During the World Without Hunger Conference, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates’ Minister of State, emphasized the event’s role in highlighting the potential for enhanced collaboration in tackling the urgent challenges facing our planet.

Sheikh Shakhboot praised Ethiopia’s significant strides in addressing climate change, calling attention to the country’s ambitious climate initiatives that lay a solid groundwork for sustainable growth and prosperity. He reinforced the UAE’s commitment to assisting Ethiopia in its climate change efforts, both domestically and regionally.

He acknowledged the shared dedication of both nations to eradicating poverty by advancing food security. “We are leading a project across 3,500 hectares near the Omo River, overseeing farming operations and crop sales. Together, we are generating momentum for a more resilient and secure future for everyone,” he stated.

Highlighting Africa’s vast agricultural potential, he recognized ongoing challenges in food security. The World Without Hunger Conference serves as a crucial platform for fostering partnerships and developing sustainable solutions.

“The UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has made significant investments in agricultural innovation and partnerships, in line with the National Strategy for Food Security 2051,” he added.

He outlined the strategy’s focus on enhancing agri-business, promoting tech-driven production, reducing waste, and managing risks, with an investment of $4.86 billion allocated to address the intersection of climate and food security as of 2024.

In conclusion, Sheikh Shakhboot urged nations to foster a spirit of cooperation and solidarity to work toward a better future for all.
