MOSCOW, July 16 (Sputnik) – The Turkish Foreign Ministry said it welcomes the reopening of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Iran and considers normalization of relations between Baku and Tehran important for the region.
“We welcome the resumption of the operations of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran. We consider the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, and the restoration of diplomatic ties to the normal level as important for the region’s stability and the spirit of cooperation,” the ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the country’s embassy in Iran resumed its work after the terrorist attack in 2023, and the ambassador and the current staff of the diplomatic mission returned to Tehran.
In late January, 2023, an armed man entered Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran and opened fire on entering the premises. The shooting left one person dead and two others injured. Following the attack, Baku suspended its diplomatic mission in Tehran.
