Addis Ababa, April 19, 2023 (FBC) – TPLF has handed over the first round of various squad weapons and equipment to the FDRE Defense Forces in Dangolat, Tigray region.
As part of the implementation of the peace agreement signed by the Ethiopian government and TPLF on November 2, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa, the disarmament of the TPLF militants is underway.
Recall that TPLF handed over heavy weapons to ENDF in the first round of the disarmament process and air force weapons in the second round in line with the agreement.
Last week, the Deputy Commissioner of the National Rehabilitation Commission, Brigadier General Derbie Mekuria, who discussed the disarmament process with the interim leadership of the Tigray region, indicated that squad weapons and equipment will be handed over from this week until April 24.
He pointed out that in the next few days, squad weapons and equipment in various camps will be handed over to ENDF.
During the handing over, Colonel Gudeta Ofka, the representative of the FDRE National Defense Forces, stated that they have received mortars, DShKs and many similar weapons today.
TPLF representative Mulugeta Gebrekrstos said that TPLF militants are handing over squad weapons to the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) in line with the CoHA.
The representatives of both sides added that the disarmament process is going well.
They underscored that the Ethiopian government and the TPLF are taking positive strides for the implementation of the peace agreement.
