The Global South is becoming key force in global governance, China says

Addis Ababa, September 13, 2024 (FBC) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Director General of African Affairs says China and Africa stand together as strategic partners. Du Xiaohui made the comments to foreign envoys and journalists during a briefing on the outcomes of the recent 2024 China-Africa Cooperation Forum, or FOCAC.

The two sides, which account for more than 2.8 billion people, have issued six proposals to drive modernization. As part of the efforts, China has announced ten major partnerships with Africa over the next three years.

That includes zero tariffs across all tariff lines on products from least developed nations that have diplomatic ties with China, including more than thirty African countries.

DU XIAOHUI Director-General, Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry stated, “China-Africa relations are at their best in history. The world is undergoing a century of rapid change. The Global South is growing stronger and stronger, becoming a key force in the participation and influence of global governance.”

“President Xi Jinping stressed that no country should be left behind on the road to modernization. This reflects the original mission of the Communist Party of China and the feelings of Chinese people, which will also promote and lead the vigorous development of the modernization of the Global South.” Du Xiaohui said.
