MOSCOW, December 23 (RIA Novosti) – Telegram has become profitable for the first time since it rolled out monetization features in 2021, with the total revenue in 2024 exceeding $1 billion, the messenger’s founder, Pavel Durov, said on Monday.
“As I predicted, 2024 turned out to be a very good year for Telegram. For the first time in its 3-year history of monetization, Telegram became profitable,” he wrote in a Telegram posting.
The popular messaging app saw the number of Premium subscribers triple this year to over 12 million, boosting its cash reserves to more than $500 million and allowing the business to repay a “meaningful” share of the $2 billion debt it took on over the past four years.
