Sudanese dignitary describes Egypt statements on GERD as “a return to the right”

Addis Ababa, May 21, 2021 (FBC) – Former Sudanese Minister of Irrigation, Dr. Othman Altoum, described the statements of the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the renaissance dam as ′′ a return to the right “.

He added in special statements to the news sector that the last five years (2016-2020) saw flooding above average, and the total increase from the average in this period reached (74) billion cubic meters, equivalent to the capacity of the GERD reservoir.

Dr. Altoum revealed that last year’s flooding increased the average by about 24 billion cubic meters, all of which went to Al-Sad Al-Aali Lake,” means Egypt could replace the second-filled water loss of 13.5 billion cubic meters of surplus water Flooding last year “, He adds that even the third filling scheduled for next year reaching 10.5 billion cubic meters will not affect Egypt.

Egypt does not even want to block the renaissance, not because of storage, but because Sudan is allowed to expand agriculture and use its full share in Nile water.

And dr. excluded Othman Altoum that Egypt hits the dam, and it is likely that Sudan will stand against this move because the dam achieves many interests for Sudan.

The Egyptian Minister of Irrigation said on Wednesday to a satellite channel that his country will not be affected by the second filling of the Ethiopian Renaissance, which was considered a dramatic coup in his country’s position. For its part, Ethiopia welcomed the statements of the Egyptian Minister today and considered them as a positive step.
