Addis Ababa, August 10, 2023 (FBC) – The State of Emergency General Directorate has issued lists of prohibitions and orders to be implemented in the Amhara region in order to fully restore law and order in the region.
In pursuant to Article 5 of the State of Emergency Decree No. 6/2015 issued by the Council of Ministers of Ethiopia in order to protect the peace and security of the people in the Amhara region, the General Directorate announced restrictions and directions which are effective as of today August 10, 2023 in the region.
- Public service, government, community and business institutions in Bahir Dar, Gonder, Debre Berhan, Debre Markos, Shewa Robit and Lalibela will be open from August 10, 2023.
- Curfews were imposed in Bahir Dar, Gondar, Debre Berhan, Debre Markos, Shewa Robit and Lalibela until August 23. Accordingly, movements for any person or vehicle are only allowed until 1:00 local time in the evening except for the emergency medical service vehicles, emergency medical service professionals and security forces.
- Public gatherings, demonstrations and related activities are strictly prohibited in the cities of the Amhara region without the permission of the General Directorate. Any act that disrupts the movement of people and transportation services in any way is strictly prohibited.
- Except national and the region’s security forces deployed in the region and without permission from these security forces, carrying weapons is strictly prohibited within the region.
- Three-wheeled (Bajaj) and motorcycle movement is completely prohibited within the aforementioned cities and towns in the region from August 10 to August 23.
- City transport service providers are obliged to return to work and resume service from August 10, except three-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles.
- Without the permission of the State of Emergency General Directorate, arresting and detaining individuals, closing businesses centers, and take other measures in the name of the State of Emergency is strictly prohibited.
Security forces are strictly instructed to enforce these restrictions and orders and take appropriate measures against any violence or breach to the aforementioned restrictions and directions in conformance with Article 7 of the State of Emergency Decree, the General Directorate asserted.
