Standing Committee praises Russia for standing by Ethiopia in international forums

Addis Ababa, January 18, 2022 (FBC) – Foreign Relations and Peace Standing Committee of the House of Peoples Representatives praised Russian Federation for standing by Ethiopia in various international forums during all trying times.

The Standing Committee discussed with Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin on bilateral issues of mutual interest.

On the occasion, Chairperson of the Foreign Relations and Peace Standing Committee of the House, Dima Negewo (PhD) underlined that Russia and Ethiopia have been enjoying longstanding relationship in both good and bad times. Russia always stands with Ethiopia during all trying times, he said.

Dr. Dima Negewo emphasized the fruitful nature of the traditionally friendly relations between Ethiopia and Russia, which have a rich historical past.

He expressed his gratitude to the Russian Federation for its firm support of the FDRE at various international platforms, first of all at the UN Security Council.

“Many Ethiopians are now serving their country through the knowledge they acquired from free scholarships they had been provided with by the Russian Government,” he added.

Dr. Dima called on the Russian side to continue support to Ethiopia in the ongoing development endeavors.

The Russian Ambassador Evgeny Terekhin, for his part, said the bilateral relationships between Russia and Ethiopia traces back more than a century.

Ambassador Terekhin also confirmed the readiness of the Russian Federation to increase multifaceted cooperation with Ethiopia and spoke in favor of strengthening bilateral cooperation in all spheres, including inter-parliamentary ties.

He welcomed the intention of Ethiopian partners to develop relations between the higher legislative bodies of the two countries.

The Ambassador further called for implementation of two agreements that have been signed so far between the two countries.
