Addis Ababa, July 25, 2023 (FBC) – Bahir Dar City Football club, also known as the Waves of Tana, will face the Tanzanian club Azam FC in the 2023/24 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup first round preliminary qualifying.
Bahir Dar City FC will be representing Ethiopia in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup after securing second place in the 2022/23 Ethiopian Premier League season, 4 points behind champions Saint George.
This will be their first outing in continental football competition for the Waves of Tana since their promotion to the top tier of Ethiopian clubs football competition a few years ago.
Hence, Bahir Dar FC will host the Dar es Salaam outfits, Azam FC, at home in the first leg of this tie and they will travel to Tanzania for the second leg. Both matchs will be played between August 18 and 27, 2023, CAF confirmed.
If they beat Azam in the first round, their potential opponents in the next qualifying round will be Tunisian side Club Africain.
Meanwhile, the 2022/23 Ethiopian Premier League champions Saint George will face KMKM FC of Zanzibar in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League the first preliminary qualifying round, the official draws from CAF confirmed.
If the Horsemen, Saint George beat KMKM and go through to the second round, they will face the current holders and 11 time winners Al Ahly of Egypt.
CAF confirmed that the first preliminary qualifying rounds will be played in August and the second round will be played between September 15 and October 1, 2023.
The 2023–24 CAF Champions League will be the 60th edition of Africa’s premier club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football. Whereas, the 2023–24 CAF Confederation Cup will be the 21st edition of Africa’s secondary club football tournament organized by CAF.
