Addis Ababa, January 13, 2025 (FMC) – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, welcomed the Joint Communiqué issued on 11 January 2025 in Addis Ababa, following discussions between Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
In a statement issued this morning via AUSSOM social media channels, the SRCC commended this important milestone in bilateral relations, which reaffirms the enduring commitments made under the Ankara Declaration.
He highlighted the significance of the renewed focus on enhancing diplomatic ties, strengthening security cooperation, and promoting economic integration, all of which are crucial for advancing regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
Through the statement, AUSSOM asserted that it remains committed to supporting Somalia’s stabilization efforts and regional partnerships, in alignment with the aspirations of the Somali people and the African Union’s vision for a peaceful and prosperous Africa.
