Addis Ababa, July 16, 2021 (FBC) – Deputy Commissioner of the National Disaster Risk Management Commission, Aidrus Hassen stated that some relief agencies’ impulse to directly reach humanitarian recipients is unacceptable.
The growing interest of some humanitarian operators to directly access non-government controlled rural areas of Tigray is against sovereignty of the nation, he said.
Deputy Commissioner Aidrus urged all humanitarian organizations to adhere to directives put in place by the government while operating in affected areas.
Currently, the humanitarian activities in Tigray are being carried out by the government and agencies that entred the region before the declaration of the unilateral ceasefire, he explained, adding that the works are undergoing pursuant to government’s consent.
Aid agencies had submitted proposals to the National Risk Disaster Management Commission, and started their operation after the government has approved it, he noted.
