Addis Ababa, October 7, 2021 (FBC) – In a press release sent to FBC, National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) stated that humanitarian flights for personnel, cargo and cash are continuing from Addis Ababa to Mekele.
As of October 7, 2021, 21 flights have been conducted from Addis Ababa to Mekelle and from Mekell to Addis Ababa as well, the Commission said.
Second round European Union humanitarian cargo donated to UNICEF through EU-HAB reached Addis Ababa on October 04, 2021 and delivered 350 cartons of plumpy nut, 28 Emergency drug kit and 14 emergency health kit to Mekelle on October 06, 2021.
As of October 05, 2021, NDRMC approved 44 partners to transport over 286 million Birr cash to Mekelle for their humanitarian operation and administration.
Humanitarian partners such as WFP and JEOP (CRS lead consortium) are currently operating in Tigray region and dispatching food to woredas and distributing to beneficiaries.
National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) is facilitating the humanitarian cargo movement to Mekelle through Semera to Abala corridor.
As of October 05, 2021, partners deployed 686 trucks to transport humanitarian cargo from Semera to Mekelle, and 122 trucks returned, the Commission indicated.
According to the Commission, 18,812 Mt of food transported including nutrition , 6,225 Mt of non- food items including health, shelter and protection, 759,235 Liters of fuel and 1,036 Mt of seeds are transported to Mekelle.
Commission added that 10 trucks carrying fuel amounting to 45,000-50,000 ltr are at Semera destined to Mekelle.
