Addis Ababa, November 14, 2023 (FBC) – Emotion-ridden and conspiracy-based problems analysis cannot help us achieve sustainable solutions, but pushes us away further from the truth, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said while addressing the parliament and responding to questions from MPs.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is currently addressing the parliament and responding to MPs questions and verdict regarding the federal government’s major priorities and plans for the 2023/24 fiscal year presented by President Sahle-Work Zewde during the joint opening session of HoPR and HoF on October 9, 2023.
What we seek to accomplish as a nation requires clarity of thought, the Premier noted. “It also requires hard work on a daily basis. Although there are many issues contributing to our challenges, negative narratives do not build a nation.”
While addressing the parliament, PM Abiy underscored that “Ethiopia does not only have a political history. This seems to occupy us the most. We also have a rich social history as well and focusing extremely on our political history will put us out of balance. Hence, it is important to bring balance to our historical lenses.”
Regarding the contested areas between Amhara and Tigray regions, PM Abiy reminded that the government believes in following the referendum decision to resolve the issues, but if there is a better solution to bring lasting peace from the regional states themselves, the government is ready to entertain it.
Moreover, regarding security issues in the past few years, the PM further reminded that over the past years, the government has neither initiated nor planned any attacks against any group as “Ethiopia is not “worthless” for us.” “We have continuously been thwarting the attacks of those who aim to weaken this nation at every turn,” he asserted.
