Second generation Diasporas pledge to promote Ethiopia’s tourist destinations globally

Addis Ababa, January 7, 2024 (FBC) – Members of the second-generation Ethiopian Diaspora have expressed their readiness to visit and promote Ethiopia’s tourist attraction sites.

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, the diaspora were welcomed by Tourism Minister Nasise Chali, Revenues Minister Aynalem Nigusse, and Customs Commissioner Debele Kabeta.

Recall that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed invited the second-generation Ethiopian Diaspora to return to their origins.

Accordingly, members of the diaspora from different countries have been arriving since yesterday.

From among members of the diaspora that arrived at Bole International Airport today, the youth Mintesnot Getachew came from Toronto, Canada.

He said “I am very happy and excited since I came back home after a long time.”

Mintesnot also urged on other Ethiopians to accept the national homecoming call and visit their country of origin.

The other young man, Miland Redwan, who is also from Toronto, Canada, said that he had heard about many tourist attraction places in Ethiopia, including newly built tourist destinations. “I am happy to get the opportunity to visit these.”

Customs Commissioner and member of the national committee established to welcome the second-generation, Debele Kabeta, said on his part that the knowledge and resource of diaspora members play important role in the effort to develop Ethiopia.

Therefore, members of the diaspora should channel their knowledge and resource to support the development endeavors of Ethiopia, he noted.

He also stressed the importance of such a national call to strengthen the participation of foreigners of Ethiopian origin and Ethiopians residing abroad to engage in the country’s investment and other spheres.

According to him, procedures have been put in place to welcome the second-generation.

Debele urged other stakeholders to do their part by providing efficient hospitality and service for the diaspora, ENA reported.
