Addis Ababa, March 16, 2023 (FBC) – The U.S. Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken, in his official visit to Ethiopia discussed the implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement to advance peace and promote transitional justice in northern Ethiopia.
In an exclusive interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate, the U.S. Secretary of State lauded the Ethiopian government for its commitment to implementing the peace accord signed with TPLF.
He commended efforts being made to fully implement the [Pretoria and Nairobi] peace deals to ensure lasting peace in Ethiopia.
Blinken said the agreement and its implementation is a significant step to achieving sustainable peace, adding that it is an important step in saving and changing the lives of the war-affected citizens in the country.
Following his meetings with Ethiopian Government officials, Blinken revealed that he witnessed a strong commitment to the implementation of the agreement and its process which includes the establishment of a credible and inclusive transitional justice system to bring reconciliation as well as accountability for peace endures and sustain in the sovereignty of the country.
In this regard, the U.S. Secretary of State said that his country recognizes the steps taken are of great importance to all affected by the conflict in mending social cohesion and returning people affected by the conflict to their normal lives.
In connection to this, Blinken also applauded the encouraging steps taken towards the restoration of public services such as electricity, telephone, banking, and air transport in Tigray region.
Finally, he stresses that all parties should work diligently to ensure that the peace agreement is fully implemented in good faith and in the interests of the country and its people.
