Addis Ababa, September 19, 2024 (FBC) – The Ambassador of the Russian Ambassador Mr. Evgeny Terekhin offers his condolences on the death of veteran Ethiopian politician Professor Beyene Petros.
Prof. Beyene Petros, a revered figure in Ethiopian academia and politics, passed away on September 17, 2024, leaving behind a profound legacy of academics, politics, and public service.
In light of this the diplomatic community based in Addis Ababa offered condolences on the death of the prominent academic and politician.
Accordingly, the Russian Ambassador penned a letter of condolence, stating: “It was with great sorrow that I have received the news about passing away of Professor Beyene Petros – veteran Ethiopian politician and renowned academic. He was an exemplary figure of peaceful political opposition since the 1990s.
Having devoted his life to the dedicated service to his homeland, Professor Beyene left an extensive and enduring legacy.
I am proud of having enjoyed personal friendship with Professor Beyene Petros during all those years. He had scored a number of sincere friends in Russia, all of whom will be missing him. On behalf of them and on my own, I express my deepest condolences to his family and close ones, colleagues and friends.”
The Prof. Beyene Petros’s body was laid to rest today in a funeral held today at the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Addis Ababa in the presence of high level government officials, friends and members of his families.
