Saint Petersburg, July 27, 2023 (FBC) – A sideline event took place in Saint Petersburg during the Second Russia-Africa Summit under the theme” Russia and Africa: partnership for food security”.
Representatives of African universities, officials of the Russian Agricultural Bank, Russian government officials, Russian agricultural inputs manufacturers and representatives of the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers (RAFP) were in attendance at the sideline event.
Sanctus NIRAGIRA, a professor at Burundi University, highlighted the significance of Russia-Africa cooperation in the agriculture sector to tackle food insecurity in the country.
Partnership with Russian agricultural machinery and fertilizer manufacturers would help Africa to increase productivity and ensure food sovereignty.
Representatives of RAFP and other manufacturers, for their part, announced a wide range of activities they are undertaking to expand import volume to the African nations thereby assisting continental efforts to ensure food security.
Oleg Ozerov, ambassador at large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, for his part, said Russia and Africa have ample potentials of cooperation in the agricultural sector, pledging Federation’s commitment to supply the continent with advanced technologies vital to increase productivity.
