Addis Ababa, April 11, 2024 (FBC) – The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ethiopia, Jung Kang, asserted that his nation is committed to further enhancing its humanitarian and development assistance to Ethiopia.
In an exclusive interview with Fana Broadcasting Corporate, Ambassador Jung Kang reminisced about the longstanding and robust bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and the Republic of Korea, which dates back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1963. He emphasized that there remains ample opportunity to significantly broaden and diversify these ties through trade and investment.
The newly appointed ambassador pledged to actively advance people-to-people and cultural relations during his term. He expressed his contemplation of arranging for cultural troupes from Korea to visit Ethiopia and extending invitations to Ethiopian cultural performance groups to visit his country.
He said that he would like to explore the possibility of Ethiopian nationals get employment opportunities in his country.
Ambassador Jung also highlighted his intention to elevate the comprehensive relations between the two nations to a more advanced stage across multiple sectors, including agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure development.
The envoy praised the ongoing endeavors aimed at fostering enduring peace in Ethiopia through the National Dialogue Commission, reiterating his country’s unwavering support for this initiative. The ambassador emphasized that Ethiopia stands as the largest beneficiary of development assistance from the Republic of Korea in Africa and reassured that this assistance will persist.
He expressed his anticipation of bolstering the presence of Korean investors in Ethiopia beyond the current approximately 20 companies operating in the country.
RoK values Ethiopia’s position as regional leader and its strong commitment to stability and development of Africa, Amb. Jung emphasized. In that regard, he expressed his hope that the government and people of Ethiopia will back his country for the success of the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit scheduled for June 2024, thereby showcasing the collaborative spirit of the two nations on international arena.
According to the ambassador, the Korea-Africa Summit is anticipated to primarily center on themes of mutual growth, sustainability, and unity.
