Addis Ababa, September 22, 2022 (FBC) – Many countries have rejected the report presented by the International Commission of Human Rights Exports on Ethiopia on the 51th Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday.
Countries such as Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and South Sudan have opposed the reports as reduplication of works already done by Ethiopian Human Rights Commission and the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Russia appreciated the role of Ethiopian Human Rights Commission to investigate alleged human rights issues in a professional and impartial manner. Russia steadfastly rejected unilateral approaches towards the situation in Ethiopia in pretext of humanitarian issues. Russia reaffirmed its firm support to the principle of “African Solutions to African problems”.
China said: “Maintaining peace and Stability in Ethiopia is an anchor for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.” China said the Ethiopian Government has exerted efforts to address humanitarian situation in Tigray and other affected areas in the North, calling the humanitarian community to recognize what Ethiopia has done to solve the situation peacefully.
Cuba said that the report is full of politicization and double standards, reiterating its full support to Ethiopia.
Democratic People’s Republic of Korea called on the international community to refrain from biased and politicized approach towards the situation in Ethiopia.
Venezuela appreciated the measures taken by the Government of Ethiopia including lifting of State of Emergency, release of high profile prisoners and humanitarian ceasefire to peacefully address the situation in northern part of the country.

South Sudan underscored that the International Commission of Human Rights Exports on Ethiopia has failed to exercise its mandate in impartial and objective manner, calling the report unnecessary duplication of the efforts made by EHRC and OHCHR.
