Addis Ababa, October 29, 2021 (FBC) – The provision of humanitarian supplies to internally displaced people (IDPs) in Afar falls in constraint due to various reasons say both regional authorities and IDPs.
An expert at the Afar State Disaster Prevention and Food Security office, Mohammed Abdlla, has said the shortage of relief provision happens due to the occupation of Chifra area, where main relief supplies center was located, by TPLF, transportation constraints, and the rise of IDP number.
FBC reporters, who talked to some of the IDPs sheltered at Ibay waedal camp in Afar, could see that the IDPs are not getting enough humanitarian supplies.
Noting the ongoing activities being undertaken in collaboration with WFP to address the shortage, Mr. Mohammed has called for more relief support from humanitarian organizations.
Nearly 23 thousand IDPs are now sheltered at Ibay waedal camp alone; of them 15 thousand are said to be children and women.
