Addis Ababa, January 25, 2024 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Airlines announced that reconstruction of Aksum Airport, also known as Emperor Yohannes IV Airport, in Tigray region has started.
Addressing Aksum city administration community representatives who visited the damaged airport, representative of the airline infrastructure sector, Abiy Zebene, said the reconstruction project has started with the budget allocated by the government, ENA reported.
The reconstruction will cost 290 million Birr, he added.
According to him, the project includes reconstruction of the airfield and runway as well as maintenance of the passenger terminal.
Representative of Neoud Construction Company that won the bid to carry out the task, Mohammed Abdu, said the reconstruction will be done according to plan.
Recall that the Aksum Airport had been serving as the main destination for tourists coming to visit attractions around Aksum and Adwa cities.
