Addis Ababa, January 4, 2020 (FBC) –The Executive Committee of Prosperity Party (PP) has concluded its first day-long meeting yesterday, January 3, 2020.
Binalf Andualem, head of PP office, told journalists today that the Committee passed various decisions after deliberation on current national issues and forthcoming election.
In his briefing, Binalf reiterated the party’s commitment for the election to take place as per scheduled.
“Prosperity Party didn’t make a shift in its position regarding the election. The party believes that the election should be conducted this year,” he stated.
However, he said, “It doesn’t mean that there are no challenges to conduct the election smoothly.”
During its meeting, the Executive Committee had an extensive deliberation on opportunities and threats of the election and forwarded possible solutions, he noted.
He further said the Committee held in-depth discussion on issues raised by the people and competing political parties as threats regarding the election.
Conducting the election as per scheduled would help achieve genuine democracy in the country and build the people’s trust in the government, he added.
Despite the current challenges, the Executive Committee came to a decision that “it would be better if the election takes place this year,” he told journalists.
Prosperity Party lived up to its commitment taking into account that “the current challenges will be addressed if all are able to fulfil their responsibilities,” Binalf noted.
He said justice and security organs, political parties and the public at large need to discharge their responsibilities to address security challenges.
In its meeting, the Executive Committee also discussed on the 10-year development plan of the country, he said.
