Addis Ababa, December 8, 2022 (FBC) – The FDRE Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, stated that altruism of hearts and minds are instrumental to flourish collectively.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, First Lady Zinash Tayachew, regional chief administrators and other senior federal and regional government officials attended the 17th Ethiopian Nationalities Day celebrations in Hawassa.
PM Abiy greeted the crowd with local languages of different nationalities in Ethiopia.
In his remarks at the event, PM Abiy said that the celebration of Nationalities Day is a symbol and demonstration of Ethiopianness where Ethiopia can be seen in fullness and brightness.
“Ethiopia is the home of all of us. If we cannot create a situation where we can blossom and prosper together in the country, none of us will be able to live in peace,” he stated.
“The demands of each of us can be answered only when the collective matters are solved. Any individual and group that can only solve their problem should realize that there is no private issue that can be answered before Ethiopia’s problem.
On this day, the culture, history, heritage, value, wealth and common pride of all of us will be observed, and we will learn that we are all very important to Ethiopia and our beauty will be highlighted and learned under the umbrella of Ethiopia,” the Premier emphasized.
The Prime Minister said that a country is like a house, and all nations and nationalities together show the great and beautiful Ethiopia, just as the country, the valley, and the roof become a house.
“Therefore, to flourish together, our heart and mind should be altruistic instead of individual aspirations.
Yesterday is a past and a foregone story. If we can only dwell on yesterday to learn from it, our future will be bright. If we criticize or praise today while dwelling on the issue of the past, it is pointless and futile. We must only learn from yesterday to build a better tomorrow for our children,” he added.
Prime Minister Abiy said that there are illegitimate ideas the left and right in Ethiopia that are similar the out-dated ideas from the past. These felonious ideas will destroy every cornerstone that will build tomorrow.
He mentioned that there are a few individuals, media, and groups who choose to create violence instead of living together. They are compelled by the destructive agendas of external forces. They try to play their politics on innocent citizens’ blood.
“My advice to our friends who have wasted their time trying our resolve is that Ethiopia may be tested but does not kneel,” he insisted.
The Prime Minister said that the prosperity and greatness of Ethiopia stems from truth and love, stating that the agenda of the defeated forces is hatred, killing and incitement to abuse the innocent.
He urged all Ethiopians ignore felonious people and their ideologies and not give in to their illicit agendas.
Prime Minister Abiy underscored that the government is making unconditional efforts to ensure lasting peace in the country following the peace agreement.
The 17th Ethiopian Nationalities Day is being colourfully celebrated at the Hawassa Stadium, as tens of thousands from across different parts of the country are participating in the vibrant event.
