Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed addressing house’s 3rd emergency session

Addis Ababa, February 22, 2022 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy is delivering elaborations at the 3rd emergency session of the House of Peoples Representatives in response to queries raised by members of the parliament.

The Prime Minister’s responses are mainly focused the current situation in the country in the light of the conflict in the northern part of the country and the Coronavirus pandemic. The growing inflation in the country is among the challenges caused by the challenges related to the conflict and the pandemic, among others.

The Prime Minister noted that conflict coupled with has imposed several pressures on the economic sector of the country. But, the Premier said, that the country has taken various measures to mitigate the challenges.

As a wayout to address economic burdens, the Premier stressed need to encourage family planning, take steps to prevent businesses from stockpiling key commodities, and boost consumer confidence while seeking to keep costs down.

“The economic progress in the last six months should be weighed in light of the operation in the North, droughts and floods, as well as impacts of COVID. Significant macroeconomic measures are required to close the budget imbalance,” he added.

The achievements gained in the tourism and agriculture sector have helped the country to mitigate the economic challenges brought by the conflict and the pandemic as well, according to the Prime Minister.
