Addis Ababa, June 7, 2024 (FBC) – The prevailing peace coupled with the existing strong leadership in Somali region of Ethiopia enabled the regional administration to deliver practical response to the development needs of the people, Chief Administrator of Somali Region, Mustafe M. Omer remarked.
The Regional Chief Administrator said that prior to the implementation of national reform program the region suffered from prolonged absence of peace which resulted in under development.
Mustafe remarked that the people of Somali are peace loving and had practically demonstrated this by the role they played in safeguarding peace in the region.
A number of remarkable development activities are being conducted in the region due to the prevalence of sustained peace in the last six years, he further noted.
The prevalence of new political culture and strong leadership has enabled the region to introduce peaceful political engagement replacing clan based political strife by peaceful political engagement, Mustafe elaborated.
Promotion of unity among people in the region has enabled the regional government to effectively respond to the development needs of citizens in the region, the Regional Administrator said.
He added that besides the efforts made by the leadership and people in the region, elders and clan leaders have also been playing a pivotal role in promoting sustainable peace and development.
Mustafe said development is a major prerequisite for the promotion of peace and added that the regional government will continue to enhance unity of leadership over the coming years.
The Chief Regional Administrator noted that efforts made to scale up the growing rapprochement between the regional government and competing political parties shows the emergence of amicable political relations in the region.
He further confirmed that all concerned partners and stakeholders will work together in resolving differences through constructive dialogues which could in turn enhance peaceful political competition and development in a more democratic manner, as per ENA.
