President Sahle-Work receives chairperson of UN Peacebuilding Commission

Addis Ababa, November 16, 2023 (FBC) – The President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Sahle-Work Zewde received members of the UN Peace Building Commission who are in Ethiopia for the joint African Union-UN meeting this week.

The President, while congratulating the delegation, emphasized that there won’t be sustainable peace without conflict prevention and breaking the vicious circle of fighting, killing and destruction.

Referring to her own experience, she added peace building has to be inclusive and addressing needs of communities.

For his part, the Chair of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, Ivan Simonovic, briefed on the work, challenges, and plans of the Commission.

The 6th informal consultative meeting of UN Peacebuilding Commission and the African Union Commission Department of Political Affairs Peace and Security (AUC PAPS) is being held in Addis Ababa this week where participants called for impactful collaboration between the two bodies, building on ‘A New Agenda for Peace’, and revised AU Post-Conflict Reconstruction & Development Policy
