Addis Ababa, July 18, 2024 (FBC) – The FDRE President Sahle-Work Zewde had a discussion today with delegation of the Republic of Ireland, headed by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Defense, Micheál Martin.
It is known that Micheál Martin and his delegation arrived in Addis Ababa last night for a working visit.
During the meeting at the president’s office, President Sahle-Work and Mr. Micheál Martin engaged in extensive discussions on various bilateral and regional matters of mutual importance.
Both parties affirmed the necessity to fully harness the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the economic sphere, particularly in trade, aviation and tourism.
They also deliberated on Ethiopia’s potential role in contributing to regional security, considering its influence in the Horn of Africa.
Furthermore, Mr. Micheál Martin conducted several meetings with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other government officials during his stay in Addis Ababa.
The Deputy Prime Minister’s visit to Ethiopia marks the thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Ireland.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, he is scheduled to conclude his visit tomorrow and return to Dublin.
