Addis Ababa July 13, 2023 (FBC) – The FDRE President Sahle-Work Zewde reiterated that the Ethiopian government will continue its efforts to increase the leadership capacity of women.
The Office of the President, in collaboration with the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the UN Women, is providing training to female members of the parliament, focusing on capacity building and enhancing women’s leadership skills.
In her opening remarks, President Sahle-Work Zewde said women are a great potential for peace and development.
Despite their natural understanding, consideration, patience and compassion, women have not been given sufficient opportunities to make decisions, she underscored.
As women are the pillar of the family and have the ability to understand challenges beforehand, the President entrusted female MPs to fulfill their responsibilities by giving due emphasis to the country and its people.
“The idea that self-confidence is considered a taboo for women should be discarded,” the president said, adding that women should make an impact by fulfilling their prospective responsibilities.
Stating that the government is increasing the leadership role of women in various institutions, President Sahle-Work said that more efforts are needed to promote it even further.
