Addis Ababa, May 13, 2024 9FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today presided over a meeting with other senior federal government officials to review the advancement of three pivotal projects in Gonder city, Amhara region.
This review was undertaken in the context of his recent visit to the Amhara region.
Recall that the Prime Minister convened members of the Executive Committee of Prosperity Party for the ruling party’s nine month performance review on May 11 at the Gorgora eco-lodge, a project established under his “Dine for Ethiopia” initiative.
On May 12, the Prime Minister, together with First Lady Zinash Tayachew and regional chief administrators, officially opened the newly constructed bridge at Abbay River in Bahir Dar City, the capital of the Amhara region.
Throughout his weekend visit to the region, PM Abiy observed the advancement of significant projects in the area.
“After my visit to the Amhara Region this weekend, I convened a meeting of top federal leaders to assess the advancement and hasten the completion of three pivotal projects in Gonder: the Megech Dam, enhancement of water supply in the city, and the finalization of the Azzezo to Gonder 11km road,” the Premier noted.
The first project under review was the Megech Dam, initiated over a decade ago but stalled due to project malpractice. Its completion was intended to address Gonder city’s drinking water challenges, yet demand continues to outpace supply. Additionally, progress on the Azezzo to Gonder 11km road was assessed, with a directive issued for the urgent completion of the remaining 4km.
Following the review of the progress the projects, the Prime Minister disclosed via a social media post that he has instructed adjustments in project management to expedite their completion in the forthcoming months.
“Based on this morning’s assessment, I’ve instructed adjustments in project management to accelerate their completion in the coming months,” PM Abiy disclosed.
The Office of the Prime Minister also noted that the Prime Minister emphasized the need for enhanced supervision, involving regional government engagement, and urged community members to safeguard peace to facilitate the finalization of vital public infrastructure.
