Premier reviews progress of Koysha hydroelectric power project

Addis Ababa, December 22, 2023 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) reviewed the progress of the Koysha hydroelectric power project which is being accelerated owing to the follow ups and national reforms implemented by his government.

It is indicated that this review marks the 12th time the Prime Minister has visited to evaluate progress of the Koysha dam since 2020.

“On my 12th review of the Koysha hydroelectric power project since 2020, I’m pleased to witness the stage of construction has reached 62% through our reformed project management and follow up processes,” the Premier said after visiting the progress of the construction of the project.

PM Abiy said, “Our national clean energy endeavor is unparalleled as we possess the first and third largest hydroelectric dams in Africa, the GERD and Koysha, respectively.”

“As we inaugurate the nearby Chebera Elephant Paw Lodge within the Chebera Churchura National Park, the Koysha Dam and its vicinity will also contribute to the tourism potential of the area,” he noted.

The Koysha hydroelectric project is the second largest hydropower plant under construction in Ethiopia, next to GERD, and with installed capacity of 1800MW, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.

The project is located in South West of Ethiopia and 560 Km far from Addis Ababa.
