Addis Ababa, February 19, 2020 (FBC) – The US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo delivered remarks at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
In his speech on “Liberating Africa’s Entrepreneurs,” the Secretary highlighted the importance of true economic liberation bring economic growth.
Stimulating the private sector is crucial to deliver jobs and prosperity in the African continent, he noted.
He further said stable and corruption free environment is crucial to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).
Pompeo commended the bold reform undertaken by the Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed.
He further said the Trump administration wants trade ties between the United States and Africa to continue and expand.
The US government and President Turmp would provide support to Africa he said citing the Prosper Africa initiative launched by the President as a case in point.
The US would also offer support to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), which entered into force last year.
