Pompeo holds discussion with Ethiopian Inter-Religious Council

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2020 (FBC) – The US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo met yesterday with the Ethiopian Inter-Religious Council in Addis Ababa.

The Secretary highlighted the fundamental importance of religious freedom in a democracy and thanked the Council members for their leadership in their respective religious communities.

Pompeo and the Council also discussed the important role the Inter-Religious council can play in encouraging constructive dialogue between religious groups in Ethiopia.

The  Secretary arrived in Addis Ababa on Tuesday for a three-day official working visit.

During his visit, Pompeo held discussion with Ethiopian leaders on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

He also met with Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission and exchanged view on peace and security challenges in Sahel region, Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia.

They also discussed on ways to strengthen health, trade and investment cooperation between the United States and Africa.
