Police announces road closures in Addis Ababa for Adwa Victory Day

Addis Ababa, March 1, 2024 (FBC) – The Addis Ababa Police released road closure information for the Adwa Victory Day celebration on Saturday, 2 March, 2024.

The Adwa Victory Day which marks the triumph of Ethiopians over the Italian invaders at the battle of Adwa will take place at the Adwa Victory Memorial situated in Piassa locality of Addis Ababa tomorrow.

To help the city address traffic congestion that might result from influx of large number of people to the area of celebration, police says it will implement some road closures and traffic management procedures from 5:00 a.m early in the morning till the end of the celebration, late afternoon of Saturday, 2 March.

Police advised drivers to avoid the streets leading to the area of celebration by using alternate routes.

Accordingly; the following streets will be closed starting at 5 a.m. until late afternoon of Saturday March 2.

Afincho Ber – St George Church

Semen Hotel – St George Church

St John Church – Abune Petros Square

Arat Menta – Jinad

Yirga Haile Mall – Abune Petros Square

Habtegiorgis Bridge – Sumale Tera

Sumale Tera – Eliana Hotel (Banko D’ Roma Roundabout)

Teklehaimanot Roundabout – Tewodros Square

Immigtation Head Office – Tewodros Square

Nigd Printing House – Tewodros Square

Old Kera – Banko D’ Roma Traffic Light

Ras Mekonnen Bridge – De Gaulle Square

Ras Mekonnen Bridge – St George Church

Mekdela Hotel – St George Church

St George Church – Tele and the Square located in the sight of the Church

In addition, police announced that motorists are not allowed to park vehicles for long hours or make all-night parking either on the aforementioned streets or around the Adwa Victory Memorial from the eve of the Adwa Victory Day, 1 March till the end of the celebration.
