PM, Pompeo hold phone talks on COVID-19 mitigation

Addis Ababa, April 13, 2020 (FBC) – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed has held phone talks with US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, on collaborating for effective COVID-19 mitigation.

The Prime Minister said on Twitter “We discussed on applying collective leadership to minimize adverse effects” of the virus.

He added “food security will be a key challenge for sub-Saharan Africa as the continent grapples with the economic impact of the virus.”

The Africa Centers for Disease Prevention and Control said nearly 14,000 coronavirus cases have been reported in 52 countries in Africa.

The virus also killed 747 people in the continent, it added.

COVID-19 has infected over 1.8 million people worldwide, with a death toll of over 116,000, according to the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
