Addis Ababa, February 5, 2020 (FBC) –‘Addis Weg’ expert’s round table has been held today at the office of the Prime Minister under the theme “key reforms of the agricultural sector!”
In his opening remarks, Dr Anteneh Girma, from the Ministry of Agriculture, provided a briefing on the key reform measures undertaken by the government to increase the role of stakeholders in agriculture.
The roundtable, which aims to gather information that is beneficial for the agricultural sector, saw presentation of research papers on the topic of the day.
Prof Alemayehu Seyoum, an agricultural researcher, recommended improvement in land management, long-term ownership, policy reform and modernization of agricultural practices to improve productivity.
Livestock Resources Specialist, Dr Workneh Ayalew, said enhancing stakeholder’s teamwork is preferable to increase productivity, instead of attempting to create new structures.
He also suggested more investment in the livestock sector. “We are not investing enough on livestock resources that corresponds with our demands of exporting animal products.”
Expanding private sectors’ involvement, with the required technological assistance, would help increase productivity and create more jobs in the sector, he said.
